Putin orders report on Norilsk spill liquidation by Aug 1

MOSCOW, Jul 6 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources to report about the liquidation of consequences of a diesel fuel spill in Norilsk by August 1, the Kremlin said on Monday.

“To the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources: to ensure special control over the conduct (using the best available technologies) of measures aimed at eliminating the consequences of an emergency situation related to a diesel spill in the city of Norilsk in the Krasnoyarsk Region,” the statement said.

A fuel tank at Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company, part of Norilsk Nickel group, lost pressure on May 29 and leaked out fuel and lubricants into the river Ambarnaya, causing a fire.

Putin also ordered the government to ensure adoption of legislative changes aimed at preventing emergency situations similar to the accident in Norilsk.

The president also ordered the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources to analyze the state of all facilities that can bring damage to the environment due to oil spill by September 1.
